Geoff Wilson recognised as a Gold Coast local hero
Gold Coast City Councillor Herman Vorster has presented Urban Money Lending Manager Geoff Wilson with a Community Hero Award for his work associated with the successful Varsity Winterfest.
In what will be its third year in 2017, the Winterfest Festival has quickly become the Gold Coast’s leading winter festival, featuring music, art, markets, food. Winterfest events like Symphony by the Lake, Paws in the Park, Vibe Street Market, Stoke Skateboard as well as other WinterFest events have become iconic within a short space of time.
WinterFest was designed by Varsity Lakes Community Limited to provide local Gold Coasters with a feast of diverse activities to access during the winter months.
Geoff said, “WinterFest not only provides Gold Coasters with an exciting range of activities to do during winter, it also brings people into the local Robina Varsity area, and introduces them to the facilities and shops that are located in the precinct.”
“This year, on what was billed as Super Saturday, it was estimated 20,000 people were attracted to Varsity through out the day and evening, for the Vibe Street Market, Buskers in the Street, Symphony by the Lake and DJ sensations – The Twins. For local retailers and store holders it provided a boost to the local economy while providing local residents with exciting activities right on their door step,” Geoff added.
Fellow event organisers Sue Horkins and Justin Read, were also recognised by Councillor Vorster.
Geoff added, “It really is a team effort when it comes to organising WinterFest. We are are really excited about the growth of the event and we are really excited about what is being planned for 2017. It is important to note that events like these do not happen without the support of the Gold Coast City Council and sponsors like Hinterland Toyota, Sea FM, REM Media, and may other passionate individuals and businesses.”It really is a team effort when it comes to organising WinterFest.
